Current Site State: Not Active
Last Deployment: Jasper Wildfires 2024
Call 310-FIRE (3473) to report a wildfire in a forested area.
August 16, 2024: With Jasper residents being allowed back tot he townsite, this need for this site has waned (It is here to help in the initial hours and days of an emergency resulting evacuation). Our heart is with those that were impacted by the fires and we wish everyone the best in what will likely be a long recovery.
This site is largely based on the learnings from an accommodation-matching site, ymmfire.ca, built to help evacuees during the 2016 Fort McMurray fires. It will work to collect resources and connect people, both evacuees and volunteers.
EvacAB is built to collect, curate, and publish resources when Albertans have to evacuate an area due to disasters. While all efforts are made to ensure that information is accurate, please be aware that misinformation is common during crisis and things may become out of date fast. Please confirm details before taking action!
Please do not bring unsolicited donations to reception centres until you see a specific call for them. Now is a good time to sort through your closet and kitchen cupboards for the upcoming weeks and months where those that have lost their homes will need to rebuild.
While active, this site will endeavor to let people know when goods, funds, and volunteer time are required. In the meantime, exercise care and caution.
Evacuees: Call your insurance company to make a claim immediately and keep ALL of your receipts to give to your insurance company! Many expenses while displaced are reimbursable under most home policies.
Albertans who require assistance can call 310-4455 for wildfire related information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Translation services are available to provide information services in languages other than English.
